Description

Introduction

This poster as described by the artist Daniel Danger

In 1965, an elaborate space exploration themed amusement park called SPACE CITY USA was planned in Huntsville, costing millions of dollars and was said to rival Disneyland in scope, with its Dinosaur and Oz parks, a full sized train, and state of the art attractions including a volcano and simulated moon colony. Construction and financing fell apart and the park never opened to the public. Few photos and ephemera exist, so these prints are my take on what could have been, on our connection to big dreams and their occasional failure to launch.

The Artist: Daniel Danger

Daniel Danger is a highly acclaimed illustrator and print-maker whose artistic journey has taken root amidst the serene woods of Massachusetts. His unique creative perspective is deeply rooted in his familial heritage, with a middle school art teacher as a mother and a skilled potter as a father. It's safe to say that a career in accounting was never on the horizon for him.

Danger's own description of his work often dances on the edge of the surreal, weaving intricate narratives that involve overlapping timelines, nods to Sierra point-and-click adventure games, enigmatic number stations hidden in desert landscapes, whispered conversations carried by the wind, and the evocative idea of ghosts meeting their end at the hands of nature's foliage. His creations give life to enigmatic trauma shadow beings born from the haunting stories of kidnapped children, beings that drip with the darkness of wolf shadows. This fascination with the mysterious and the supernatural finds its roots in his love for 1920s children's books.

The Band: Phish

Phish is a pioneering American rock band that has been pushing the boundaries of music and live performance since their inception in 1983. Comprising four exceptionally talented musicians—Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell, and Jon Fishman—Phish has cultivated a genre-defying sound that fuses elements of rock, funk, jazz, and improvisation. Their concerts are renowned for their improvisational prowess, where each performance becomes a unique and immersive experience, attracting a devoted fanbase known as "Phishheads." With an extensive catalog of songs and a commitment to musical exploration, Phish continues to inspire and captivate audiences with their electrifying live shows and innovative approach to music.
